Although the LN plane may have some utility, the Veritas plane is just too small and specialized. There is a point were tools get so small that they become more fatiguing to use, rather than less, because it's harder to control the tiny tool with your finger tips than it is a larger tool with your entire hand.

Both manufacturers produce "apron" sized planes that are very useful for boat building, paddle making and many other operations:

Prior to the arrival of the Veritas Apron plane, the LN Small Block Plane was sort of the benchmark for a handy size plane for kayak building. I have one and I really like it for a lot of purposes, though if I was buying a plane this size now, I would probably choose the Veritas for it's better adjustment mechanism and lower price.
