The first caveat is I am a little bit crazy, the days I was taking pictures with my daughter I was in a boat that has a beam of 21.5" . Now regarding your question Avocet I think is plenty stable for most people that would take that kind of camera gear on the water. She is 23.2 inches wide and a little more than 16' long. The hull stays pretty full in both the bow and stern adding to the stability. She is a little more flat bottomed than my other boats but maybe more rounded than most boats that are that wide. She does a better leaned turn than any boat I have paddled. If you have kayak foundry I would be glad to send you the file. I think she is a nice blend of responsive, efficient up to about4.5 knots and stable. I have also designed a 16' low version along the same lines for my daughter as well as a 17.5' version that has 1" less deck height and 1" less width. I think I will really like the 17.5 footer if i ever get it built.
