Used properly, pairs of magnets auto align the hatch cover with wood grain patterns and cover perimeter gap spacing.

Sure, makes sense

Perhaps you'll come up with something different that works for your purposes.

Well, my challenge is I don't own a drill press, so I don't think I'll be able to achieve the necessary level of precision for your exact method using a hand drill.
