I was unclear in my original post. The deck is centered over the hull but it is wider to a point approximately 18" from the end. I remember reading a post, maybe from Rob Macks, about learning to put in writing what is so easy to communicate verbally.

Anyway, I appreciate all the feedback. I stared at it some more last night and tried a few things. The hull seems a little more pliable than the deck so I traced the outline of the deck onto a piece of plywood and cut along a line offset for the thickness of the wood. This made a wedge that I used to gently pry the hull open a little more. Between that and a couple of clamps on the hull, I think I can get them aligned to within 6" of the tip of the stern.

I'm still pondering Rob's idea of taking the fiberglass off the inside of the deck. I think that would make it a lot easier to line things up, I just haven't convinced myself to do it yet.

I was planning on using Nick's block of wood idea on both ends any way since I didn't worry about getting the strips perfect at the very tip of either end. The last 1" or so need to be sawed off and replaced. If I can get everything lined up to within 6" or so I can live with that approach.
