I just don't see how it could double the weight of the boat to use all oak for the frame.
I understand that there are parts of the frame that most People agree should be oak.
My using oak on the parts of the frame that aren't usually oak might double +\- the weight of
just those parts of the frame that might normally be some other lighter wood.
Every other part of the boat will weight the same as if I used wester red cedar for stringers etc.
I do intend to undersized the oak a bit as it it stronger than softer woods.
I also can't believe doubleing +\- just those parts of the frame will add up to 10 pounds total?
That seems like a lot of weight for not a lot of additional heavier wood.
I would willing build using normal material.
I don't have access to that.
I do have access to newly cut green white oak.
That is what I will build with and the boat will weigh what it weighs.
I will weight the frame before I skin it and we shall see, but I don't expect it'll be a brick.
Since we are on the subject of wood weight, has anyone weighed just a frame build the " normal way".
Perhaps I could have been more clear in my first post, my main concern was the behavior
of green white oak after I mill it to size and build the boat with it.
I've gain some good information here and I'm no longer concerned with using green wood.
This group has been helpful.
