Strip: Coaming lip -- cedar?
It seems all coaming lips are made from some form of hardwood rather than cedar. Is this because of strength, aesthetics, or tradition?
The reason I ask is because I have several hundred feet of approximately 1/16" cedar strips as a by-product of strip cutting. They have a wide range of colors. What would be the disadvantage -- if any -- of using cedar for the coaming lip.
