ditto what John said.
Seat placement by designer. I place a seat temporarily and use the fist method. Long time ago I found 55" from one bulkhead to the next is my perfect measurement with a 34"inseam. Helps to get the spray skirt to fit centered on your waist and not be tight to front or rear. At 55" my rails are nearly tight to the bulkhead and I set footpegs one click from the end.
