: Hey Shawn,
: Glad to hear you launched your Cormorant. I read the trip report, sounds like
: a great outting. Are you prepared for the ooohs and aaahhhs from everyone
: once you post some pictures or actually take it out in public during the
: daylight? That's one nice boat, can't wait to see current photos.
: What do you have planned for the next one??????
A folding Anas Acuta ala the Yost FAP-16,
Then, a Prospector cedarstrip canoe
Then, a Morris SOF
Then, a Redfish King....
: What are your thoughts on building a stripped deck hybrid?
Love it. Highly recommend it. Yours is beautiful. No reason not to, unless a person is really in a hurry to get a boat done.
: Would you do it again?
Absolutely. Whenever I set my Chesapeake next to my Guillemot on the beach, people always ignored the Chesapeake to gawk at the Guillemot. If it's just the Chesapeake, people look at it.
I decided then I always wanted a purty stripper. (don't tease me about my plastic Avocet!). S&G kayaks have some nice advantages--especially if you want a crisp, hard chine; and they're quicker to build. The extra stripping time on the deck is worth it, IMNSHO.
: Any regrets? Anything differently?
Big regret #1: taking the Cormorant out to the N. Rockies "Meet at the Beach" without interior glass, and the whole boat warped and swelled.
Differently: nothing I can think of at this point. I sort of wish I'd have had it done for R2K2, so other folks could try out one of Grant's designs.
Take care,
Shawn
