I meant to post this information earlier, but it slipped my mind. Thanks for reminding me.

The VCP compass recess is made to fit the Brunton Nexus 70P compass. This is the compass that GRO sells for $93 (last catalog I checked). I did some poking around the net and found a place that had it for the outrageous price of $52.99. I called - they didn't have it in stock and it was going to take 3 weeks to get it in. Since I was in no hurry, I ordered it. I had the compass in about 2.5 weeks.

The place is called American Outdoor Sports, and I've added the link to their Brunton page below. Their online catalog is pretty sparse, so all you'll see is the price.

I used the dimensions from a spec sheet on another site ( http://www.pyacht.com/nexus_70p_marine_compass.htm ) to start working on the recess before the compass arrived.
