I'm no expert finisher, but I hand wet sanded my Coho with 120 grit Si carbide "black" paper. I used Zspar flagship varnish. With 3 coats on the boat, which is where I stopped, so that I could start paddling it. I still have some swirl marks from sanding that show through. I figure that later I will re-wet sand the boat with finer paper before re-varnishing.
