your idea, at first i didn't like, but Spideys response got me to thinking... My dalily driver is a toyota wagon with factory roof rack. I didnt want to cut the headliner in "godzilla" to attach the wood. The rack on the wagon is held on by 4 big knobs that thread into "nuts" recessed into the roof. If i remove the dome light and use a magnet to slide some kind of "nut" over to the area where the hole is drilled, cutting the headliner wouldn't be necessary! And the rack would be removable if i seal the bottom of the nut before putting it in place. by the way, just finished painting Godzilla. You guys will love this one, did it with a short nap roller and used two part marine epoxy paint purchased from Sherwin Williams. They even custom mixed the color i wanted(lizard skin green). Will post a pic soon. It looks much better than it sounds!
