I just finished a Great Auk and I have close to 400 hours in it. Now there are a number of wasted hours because of mistake that I wouldn't do again but then you will probably invent your own mistakes. I started with only the tables in Nick's book so have layout hours in it. I scrounged all my table materials and frame materials from scrap piles. $500 is about right for the materials in the kayak but then add the tools you can't live without and for me the outfitting costs for PFD, wet suit etc is putting me around $1000. But the cost per hour of pleasure in building is quite low. In fact the longer it takes the better that number gets ;>) Earl Earl
