I was considering a trip to Alaska about 2 years ago and did some searching for train info on the web. AMTRAK did not have anything soecifically mentioned tht I couod find, but in Canada you can take your canoe or kayak on the train with you. The limit was 18 feet long, and if I remember correctly, they charged a flat fee of $50. They just put the thing in the baggage car and treat it like oversize luggage.
