I'm not sure if it was faster in the long run for a single kayak. I can say that now that I am starting my second kayak (my wife claimed the first one) it was pretty fast since I only had to do the 10 minute tuning.

Also, since I was doing it by myself, I liked the idea of not having to move all of the 20 foot strips thru twice.

I guess the bottom line is that I liked the idea of getting it to work and had some extra time on my hands to tinker. A single router would work as well (but with twice the strip handling). With adequate feather boards both routers above or below would probably work as well too (as testified to by Rob Macks in his instructions).
