This deck is entirely strip-built; there are no veneers or plywood.

I do not use bead and cove on intricate deck designs because I feel that I can get tighter joints by beveling the strips. If I use bead and cove I am not always positive that the strips are snugged up tight to their neighbors; while sanding the the feather edge on the cove, if the strips are not tight, a gap will appear. By beveling the strips what-you-see-is-what-you-get!

I went stapleless with this particular kayak.

I used redwood for the darker tones, western red cedar for the intermediate tones, and white pine for the lighter tone.
