My first idea, yes, but the rope would interfere with the gear inside the hull, which lead to the next idea with some block wheels to run the rope or bungee-cord through, thus keeping it all up just underneath the deck. (See the picture below)

But as a sort of techno-maniac as i probably am, i got the idea to hinge the hatch and make some sort of locking device that could be operated from the cockpit-aerea (For better details follow the link underneath the picture) The latch on the right side of the hatch opening must be operated by some sort of axle from the cockpit. The axle must have some sort of lever or handle that could be locked in the "closed"-position and the torsion of the axle could provide spring-force to keep the latch tight in locking-position. (It isn't clearly visible on the drawing, but the latch catches in a hole in the bracket fastened on the hatch, the bracket is the black wincled line on the hatch frame structure)

I must point out that theese are only ideas that i have, i haven't been able to experiment to see if they work to my satisfaction. Anyone who wants to use the idea, feel free to adopt it and develop it, but keep us posted on the progress.
