Alcohol can be a problem when abused. In moderation it's fine. Not everyone is able to moderate, and the wiser of them avoid it altogether.

I've noticed how what I drink while working in the shop tends to change in a manner similar to the music I listen to.

Beer for aggresive, physical tasks like ripping, planing, sanding, etc.

Wine for cerebral tasks like guing intricate parts together.
