I've built 2 kayaks from George's book. They were easy to build, even though they were the first boats I've ever built. The construction method is very non-traditional which bothers some but not others and will create a 35 to 50 pound boat.

I too didn't have that much plywood to play with, so I made a strongback(which now has my third boat on it) as it is cheaper to buy dimensional lumber. Having a concrete floor also had a bearing on my use of a strongback.

Buy the book, it's quite good and have fun building.
