Thanks. I got to try it out this week, and it worked great. My wife and I took a week off and went up to Vermont to do some paddling with Randy Bertrand. He took us to a couple of great paddling spots. I took the mold along on the drive up, and Randy made a seat for himself. His turned out better than mine.

I thought about that when I was posting the pictures. I thought it could stir-up a new discussion about duplicating a design. Luckily, it hasn't.

A couple layers of glass in the area was all that was needed. In fact, after I had finished the seat, it was more rigid than the original. I don't think I'll need any more reenforcement. I think that if I had used fewer layers to start with, that your box-beam idea would have worked too.
