Varnish is only as good as its foundation

In Response To: Wet sanding before varnishing?? (Philip Serra)

You should let the epoxy cure for as long as you can stand (in my case about 3 weeks), then do wetsanding (take off as little as possible to get a smooth surface), then start varnishing.

You should have a smooth surface BEFORE varnishing since the varnish actually enhances any imperfections!

The longer the epoxy cures the easier it is to wetsand.
