: ok,ok,,,I was relieved it worked since it had been for sale for a couple
: weeks before it was even tested in the water. heck,,that skeg kit was one
: missed opportunity,,instead of making a different skeg for the Chesapeake,
: Pax18 and Pax20 or recommending it for the Northbays someone could have
: considered updating the Chesapeake/Northbay by actually paddling them. Or
: noticed that "racing kayaks" have racing rudders.

interesting comments, i don't know much abt skegs, but just the opportunity to deploy or not changes things dramatically.

my comment in the last post was a play on the poor resolution of having 2 inches of skeg post sticking up out of the ctr of the yak just where you might get unavoidably 'anally retained' on your previously mentioned cowboy style or final paddle float reentries, hehe!

however, when i was playing around with rudder and skeg ideas a few yrs ago, i must admit that i found a lot of scope to the unrealized approach that the clc skeg presents. for example if i remember correctly: if a pivot is used, the box should be tipped forward 1/2 the deploy angle (like a parallelogram), the skeg should be shaped offset perfectly triangular w/ the apex at the topbox front and the bottom even w/ the hull bottom w/ the apex staying below deck ht at mid deploy/retract and the back top of the box should therefore be at the 1/2 angle back from the pivot. then can have cover or complete deckover options. (as well as no anal retention in any case, whew!)
but past that, the very interesting (to me) aspect is what if NO pivot at all??? and what if the deploy exit at the back of(or in)the box is LOWER than at the top - say halfway down? could get some deep deploys, huh? could be real easy to replace, eh(canadian expression)? could be real aesthetic as well as simple to build(well, maybe just a little hyperbole)!

anyway watch yr butt out there!!
