In Response To: Hinged pedals/footbrace - Questions *Pic* (Lloyd E. Peterson)

: Questions: 1) The horizontal foot brace requires repositioning the bolts for
: adjustment? ------ very solid, but requires more time. I like that it is
: solid and I don't find myself changing my foot brace postition.

Yes. The bolts are glued into the horizontal piece. To adjust, simply undo 4 wingnuts and move the whole thing to another set of holes further along the mounting plates. You could get away with just two wingnuts - one each side -and just leave the other two bolts to act as pins. As you say I do not adjust it much, so I figured I would just put nuts on all of them.

: 2) You work the hinged pedals my straightening out your foot?

Yes, although it is more a flexing of the toes really.

: 3)Does your foot rotate around the balls of your feet?

Not very much.

: 4) Do you find that you would ever like to move your feet closer to the hull
: or, in other words, splay them out more?
when I build the next boat, I will make the mounting plates slightly narrower, so that the footbrace extends more towards each side of the hull, allowing me the option to splay my feet out a bit more. However it is comfortable as is.

: Questions 2 - 3 are all about how your feet feel as far as comfort and how
: effectively they can move through the range required to move the rudder as
: needed.
It is comfortable, and provides a rock solid brace into the boat. The distance the pedals have to move to fully activate the rudder in my boat is quite short. The activation sweep of the rudder pedals is dependant upon the distance from the rudder hinge pin to the point of attachment of the cables on the rudder itself. It is the usual balance of effort/distance common to all lever arrangements.

Good luck with your build.
