In Response To: Off Topic: Breathable dry suit? (Greg Clopton)

: I'm beginning to look at new dry suits. The one I have is a two piece that
: does not breath well. I tend to like exertional paddling and often dump a
: few quarts of fluid when I take off my suit--hence the term "dry
: suit" is a bit of a misnomer. Needless to say, when you are out for a
: week in remote areas, the base layers are a little rank within a few days.
: I often pass on an after dinner paddle because I don't want to craw back
: into a wet, slimy base layer.

: Criteria would be (1) breathability (2) durability (3) relief zipper (4)
: comfort.

: Suggestions? Thanks . . .

I've been doing my own research into the topic.

I haven't owned a drysuit.

I had a claustriphobia episode in an Eastern Mountain Sport changing room
back when I was whitewater paddling.

Think Hodini struggling to escape from a straight-jacket with no head opening.

Wish I had a movie. But I wasn't smiling at the time.

Yeh, later my friends said," well you have to trim the neck gasket for it to work well.

Anyway, I've stuck with wet-suits since then. Not much fun there.

Well now I'm in Maine so I guess it's time to try a dry suit again.

All the reviews and recommendations I've found on the web have voted for the
Kokatat GFER drysuit. It has Gore-Tex© relief zipper and Gore-Tex booties, and
sells for $865 at NRS and REI.

What are others opinions out there?
