Hi Tom,
You can mix turps with either boiled or raw linseed to thin them.
Using boiled linseed and turps on cotton, you can get a finish that looks like oiled leather and feels like rubber-coated cotton. On wood, it feels a bit like a soft varnish.
Raw linseed and turps doesn't set the same, it feels drier but smoother when dry, if that makes sense. In use and wet, it's suprisingly grippy but not sticky, nice when using a sliding stroke. Easy to move through your hands but secure.
