I just finished helping a friend cut some strips from clear redwood from old water tanks and we ran some clear poplar as well. I'm getting the Poplar 10' stips. All 1/4" X 3/4" x 10' long, all clear, with B & C.
I know I can scarph them to make just about any boat, and will use many of them for that... There's enough to do 5 or 6 long boats or ??? shorter boats.
I'd like to build a couple of 9 to 9 1/2' long canoes. Maybe a kayak or two, just using the wood as is.. length, with wide beam, around 9 1/2' long.
The white ( poplar ) wood in the bottom of the pic. is only around 1/3 of the actual amount. They are already run with the bead and on Friday we'll be running the cove on around 90% of them. I would like to score some of the redwood as well, to use as feature strips for the poplar but time will tell. We ran some Mahogany as well, which I will most likely get in the end.
Anyway, I'm looking for some ideas on possible designs, probably useful for fishing or just playing.. Was looking at Rushton's Sairy Gamp design.. but want other ideas as well.
