Interesting. I hadn't equated the difficulty I had rubbing it out with it's being soft, but had assumed it was because it was hard. I used satin because I prefer(red?) the look to gloss, so I wasn't trying to get a high sheen, just leveling off the brush marks. The amount of work it took to level is what made me think it was hard. Perhaps I've got it backwards. I used it on two boats but then switched back to regular spar varnish because I thought it too finicky to apply without brush marks. I'm not sure what I'll use on the boat I'm building now.

: Of course... I use the cross-linker for all 4 coats not just the outer layer.
: I wet sand and polish my boats. It's really tough to sand and polish
: because it is so soft. The other two-part poly I've used before was
: Epifanes. That stuff is much, much harder than the LPU. It's real easy to
: bring it to a high shine. I compare LPU to about the hardness of Captain's
: varnish... at twice the price. Just telling you my experiences with LPU
: (used it on three boats in the past 2 years). The other boats were
: Epifane's poly and regular marine varnishes (Epifane and Captains). I was
: a convert to water-borne finishes. Now I don't know... I'll keep using
: them for furniture... just not boats I guess...
