Hi Rob and forum,

There is a source of cedar strips at much lower price in Oz, but the strips are pre-stripped and only 3.5 mm thick. I am making my first kayak - a Guillemot - from them and you can imagine the issues of using such thin strips. Time will soon tell if it is a worthwhile experiment. I've designed a second kayak to build using these thin strips, much simplified shape, less 'undercut', less sweep up to the bow and stern. I'm planning on using 6oz cloth inside and out.

The strips I bought were 45mm wide and around 3 metres in length. I bought a box of them for $250.00 shipped to Adelaide, and have made a single scull rowing boat. I've put aside enough for two kayaks, and have approx 50% of the original supply left.
