A neighbor built the Walrus from the George Putz book quite a while ago . He was a beginner , fished from it even , so it had to be stable. He liked it very much but I recall him saying it was suffering from breakage to the side trusses.

I would use plywood forms rather than Putz's method . It will be much lighter in weight and just as strong. Tom Yost has some very good designs and ideas on his website. Don't mean to put you off Putz's method as it does get you a kayak.
