Weight-wise you can easily get close. The BP's I built last year (18.5' x 19") weighed in at 29-31 pounds fully outfitted. A 19 x 17 surf-ski would be comparable. Where the difference will be is in the design. It's hard for someone to home-design a craft that will be competitive to a factory race hull. For home use, I would design my own. Would I be competitive in it? Heck no because the engine would suck! Still, it would be nice if someone (anyone) made plans available for a strip-built competitive surf-ski. Sounds like a niche to me!
