: I've never ripped hardwood with my jig saw, but the WRC Nikumi frame pictured
: below was ripped with a jig saw... all stringers and cross sections.

Tom, cutting all those stringers with a saber saw must have been a trial. I understand that with a table saw your workshop has to be twice as long as the longest stringer if one is to do the job in a single pass, or the doors have to be open at both ends ... Brrrr.

I use a hand (circular) saw with a thin kerf finish blade for cutting stringers. I built a narrow bench for cutting, it runs almost the full length of the workshop and has a top made of insulating foam; mine breaks up into sections for storing. Cost $40, time 3 hours.

I rest the plank on the cutting table, secure it with a stop and friction tape. My saw has a zero-clearance ply base and I use a guide clamped to the ply base extending several inches fore and aft for clean cut starts and finishes. I bevel the front bottom edge of the guide to stop chips getting under. It is very quick and easy. It gives great results on cedar, haven't tried hardwood yet but I don't see why it wouldn't work.
