I don't like deck lines any better than you do. But I have been in situations where I wished I had them, and never in a situation where I was glad I didn't. I think they are a good addition to a well outfitted boat for anyone who spends a significant amount of time paddling with others. They are there for your friends as much as they are there for you. But, I am still reluctant to add them.
