: Would you glue it down with thickened

: I hope I'm not out of bounds mentioning how Rob Mack does it in his
: instruction booklet but since he mentions a source for this technique in
: the FINE WOODWORKING article "Easy Veneering with a Household
: Iron" #108, Oct. 94 page 48, this is how it is suppose to work. You
: coat the article to glue the veneer to and the veneer with carpenters glue
: and let it dry. You also dampen the other side of the veneer with water so
: the veneer won't curl. Then you take an iron and iron on the veneer. The
: hot iron activates the glue. I have been thinking of trying this just to
: see if it works.

I decided to use the carpenters glue after reading a couple of Lee Valley tech bulletins, they said glue down and cover with varnish or whatever clearcoat you put on your furniture.I cut the groove by scoring the edges with a sharp blade
and then a sharp delicate chisel.Left it a bit proud in order to sand the kerf marks from the saw blade and fair it out a little. When I'm done the whole deck will be covered with 4 oz cloth and resin but I wonder if I should precoat the strip with epoxy to make sure the small gaps along the edge are properly filled
and to avoid small voids that could trap air bubbles under the cloth.
Thanks
Bert

Why inlay at all? Surface mount and sand.
