I rip kiln dried red oak and throw it in a turkey fryer. When it comes to a boil I start bending and installing the ribs. I used to presoak for 3 days and I have found that it is unnecessary. I just bent in a set of ribs last night and had no breakage. I have retired my steambox. Boiling water is less painful than steam when geting a rib and is much more uniform. I turn the ribs that are sticking out of the water around a couple of times to ensure they are heated, and then bend away.
