Hi John
I roghed out a foam seat the same way.
I didn't use a dragon skin but it is like a tin lid with nail holes punched through.I tried a number of tools including;a heated strip of metal banding,a rolled up length of band saw blade, a course sanding disk,and a hole saw.
Overall,I think the hole saw was the most efficient.To finish the seat try a sanding screen wrapped around a tennis ball.
