(i'm not one of the 'you guys', i often contemplate getting out the chainsaw and starting over because of my inept juvenile woodwork.)

drawing it out helps focus on the issues in a different way, you can even mockup by multiple xeroxes or copies, quick gluing/taping into long strips to get ideas.maybe even your figured board. On some detailed areas of my yak, i went thru 20 or more small fullsize dwgs untill i was satisfied so i wouldn't get out of line of what i really wanted. so dwg helps on large and small.
