Sorry I didn't get to you before. Have you considered a Stanley 45 Plane for the plowing of grooves? It's what I use for panel type furniture bld. They are available in an inexpensive "user grade" at Stanley 45. Its a guy in IL.
You can get a few cutters that you anticipate using. It takes practice, but works well. - Scott
