I don't think that you have an issue. We know that the 4 oz layup is sufficient for strength. The main concern are those submerged "shit happens" and if you want to run your boat onto the beach. For these instances the extra glass is good. The overlap is not an issue in this case.

I you want maximum structural strength, the load transfer ratio is ~1:50 (glass) ~ 1:100 (carbon) in fiber direction, i.e. a 6oz layer is ~0.2 mm thick, thus an overlap of 10 mm for fiber glass is all you need.

: Pete,
: Its moot now because the 'poxy is curing but...

: I just finished laying up the outside of a strip-biult Putz Walrus hull. Two
: layers, 3.75oz std weave. The first layer is on the diagonal ( bias) and
: the top layer is parallel. The seams are quite a ways off each other,
: 12-14" at least. How does having a seam in the cloth affect the
: overall strength? When I did them, the frays of each pc overlapped into
: the frays of the other, there's about 1/4" of little or no weave-
: kinda like chop in there. Was that a serious mistake? Does the strength
: start to drop off close to the edge of the weave?
