After stripping the hull and deck using non-cove and bead strips I found I had a few gaps to fill (ok, more than a few). Last night, starting with the hull, I followed the advice on the board and in Nick's book by I filling the big ones with thin wood strips and that worked well. The problem came when I mixed epoxy and wood flour to fill the rest. After working on about half the hull, I stopped and realized that it looked like I let a child finger paint my hull with chocolate frosting. I then switched to using a syringe and that worked much better, a lot neater. It put a thin bead in the gaps, leaving only a line to scrape smooth. I have already planed the hull and I was afraid some areas are a little thin, so tonight I had to set the blade on my spokeshave shallow and scrape the hardened mess off, being careful not to take much more wood off. I got most of it off, but there are still some stains. When I get to the deck, I'll use only the syringe to fill the gaps. On my next boat, I think I might fill the gaps before planing. Or maybe plane, sand, saturation coat, and then fill. Regards, Scott.
