Epoxy: epoxy bond

I am to the point where I can epoxy the yak. However I have a lot of places on the boat where the strips are covered with veneer( very thin). I was wondering what happens to the mechanical bond that is supposed to take place between the wood and the glass. When I apply the precoat of epoxy, will it sink into the veneer and bond to the strips? Will the "shell" effect of having glass on the inside and the outside negate my problem or will I have a void between the veneer and the strips? Lots of questions that I hope someone has the answers.
