Most builders tend not to put too much hardware on their wood boats as it detracts from the beauty and it also adds work to drill holes and seal all of them with epoxy. Be very sure to seal all the holes as water will find exposed wood.
I use simple plastic pad eyes for any deck straps. For shock cord cargo straps, simply attach with plastic hooks on ends of cords. For safety lines, you could use the same methods. Whatever you attach, make it simple to remove for future re-varnishing. It is a lot easier to have a clean deck to sand and varnish, than having to apply varnish around hardware.
