: I tracked down my friend that used to cut the perfect plugs in hardwood and
: matched them in wood so well that I had a hard time finding the plug. The
: reason I find this so interesting is because holes and blemishes in the
: wood of kayaks could be concealed without wood flour, etc. mismatches. I
: tried this with my 1/2" plug cutters in walnut and the walnut edges
: burned badly. My friend, a real tool nut, said the secrete was all in the
: cutter and how it was ground. He said the co. had two plug cutter types, a
: short one and a long one. He used the long one which cut lots continuos
: plugs which rode upward and out at the top of the cutter. The Greenlee
: plug cutter he used belonged to the company and were expensive he said. I
: can’t come up with the "Greenlee Tool Co., 4455 Boeing, Rockford,
: IL" on the net and I suspect they may be out of business but I have
: found Greenlee tools being auctioned.
