: Finishing up my Tern 17. I wonder if I could throw open for discussion the
: relative merits of the two types of paddle parks. Pygmy suggests (and
: supplies) a bow bungie plus a clip for the bungie in front of the cockpit
: that together hold the paddle lengthwise along the foredeck. Then there is
: the double-cleat type that holds the paddle across the beam. I can
: envision advantages and disadvantages to each type. BTW, I plan to use a
: GL paddle but would also like to be able to use a euro. Thanks

I use the paddle park that Pygmy suggest. It works very good and holds the paddle very secure. I really like it when I am launching into onshore waves. I can secure the paddle, climb into the boat, secure the spray skirt and hand push myself off shore. The paddle park holds the paddle good while waves are breaking over mt boat. The only modification I did was on the front bungee setup. I didn't want my deck to get scratched so I looped a peice of bungee around two pad eyes mounted close to the shear line. I took a peice of bungee and ran it through the pad eyes. With about a foot of bungee hanging out each side I tide a knot on the outside of one of the pad eyes, then pulled a little tension and tide a knot on the outside of the other pad eye. This holds the bungie firmly on the deck. Then take the two ends and pull them over the deck. I took these two ends and spliced them together so that this top loop sticks up far enough to slip my paddle through easily. I spliced mine together with a peice of black electrical shrink tube. When you use the front bungees, put your paddle between the loop. The bungee thats stretched on the bottom will keep your paddle from contacting the deck. The only thing I don't like is haveing the top loop sticking up. It works so well that I've grown to live with it. It holds eoro paddles and greenland paddle well. It also works good for short portages.
