aspen / poplar & coating.

Aspen is often sold as poplar. They are soft and easy to work with, takes paints well. In the presence of water, both can rot quickly; that's why they are seldom use in boat construction. There are better, more durable wood to use. If you like the look and price of aspen/ poplar, go ahead -- just make sure they are throughtly coated with epoxy and recoat quickly if the coating is scratched.
