In Response To: Strip: Raka 5oz wet out (Russ Chambers)

: I have done a test plate to check out my skills at wetting out the glass.
: This is my first time. I am using the Raka 5oz and have followed Larry's
: directions.

: After two fill coats the surface is very smooth. If I look straight into the
: finish the glass is invisible everywhere except against a black
: transparency overlay I have been experimenting with. If I take the board
: into direct sunlight and tilt it back and forth, I can see some
: "sparkles" from the weave.

: Is this normal or am I not quite there?

: Oh by the way...re. previous question about surface finish prior to glass, I
: rough sanded the hull after having a conversation with the nice folks at
: Gougeon Bros. I hated it but better safe than really grumpy later.

: Thanks,
: Russ
I have not seen a wood kayak yet if you look hard you know it has been glassed but I like to squeege the resin to it's final state and take a hair dryer to thin the resin out so the glass wets better and the air does not have to fight it's way out.
