Skin-on-Frame: Ouch!! Need advise (deck beams)

Hello All;
First I am following Cunningham’s method for my deck beams on both mine and my wife’s boats only I did not peg them vertically through the gunwales. The deck beams have half thickness tennons that go all the way through the gunwales. Last night, we were measuring for masik placement and arc and the backrest deck beams on my wife’s boat split along the grain at the bottom of the tenon.

I was thinking I could fix this by sandwiching the old deck beam between two full-length full width supports. I would use gorilla glue to repair old beam and essentially laminate it to three times normal thickness. I was thinking I could then peg the bottom third through the gunwales for extra support Morris's method.

Any thoughts?

Thanks
Richard
