I used some 1" strips on a canoe with no problems. They were 3/16" thick. You might have some problems depending on the design of the boat. If it has compound curves, smaller width strips work way better. A design like the Great Auk would be easy with 1" strips, except for the shear line turn. Good luck. Greg
