Here's a photo that may resemble the graphic you're interested in. I like to refer to it as the "Runabout" graphic. The mahogany runabouts many times used holly for the pinstripes (some used white caulking), here I've used Alaskan yellow cedar. You will have to start stripping from the centerline and work towards the sheer (of course the first strips you lay down will have to be the sheer strips). I used two strips of mahogany then a pinstripe, two strips of mahogany then a pinstripe etc. One thing to keep in mind is that the radius of the foredeck and aftdeck are not the same - the pinstripes will not line up at the sides of the cockpit so don't attempt to add them beyond the recess.
I prefer to add the pinstripes one at a time while stripping (rather than pre-gluing them to the mahogany strip).
The "Runabout" graphic has a very classy look - good luck.

: So close to starting I can't stand it!!

: Hybrid construction, strip decks. Nicky wants her deck done to resemble a
: Mahogany Chris Craft. If you remember they had the caulk lines (white)
: running down the deck parallel to the center line. Of course that is what
: I had in mind for my boat, but I will let her have that and do something
: different for mine. Well maybe not. :-)

: I remembered one I had seen done similar. Laughing Look North star is very
: similar to what I have in mind. Link below.

: I have two ideas on how to do this. One is just small strips or white wood
: between the wider strips. I have feeling that is easier said than done
: too.

: Second idea is gluing up a board with a thin white wood strip. Then ripping
: to into strips so there is a stripe on one side of the strip. I have a
: complete woodshop so I making this isn't an issue. It will take time but I
: can produce very consistent width and thickness this way.

: The drawback is that I have to be very careful when beveling the edges.
: Always have to do the cutting on the one side of the strip. Never on the
: white edged side. I am thinking that may give me some problems.

: So, someone done this or can tell me a better way?? What am I missing?
