I personally like to epoxy the glass without pre-coating. For S&G, however, it might be a good idea to pre-coat. From what I've seen, Okoume plywood is very porous and outgasses much more than the typical wood used on a stripper. You can still get away without pre-coating if you epoxy the glass as the temp. in your work area is dropping. It's not that difficult to keep the glass from being starved; the wood doesn't soak up that much resin.
If you do pre-coat:
-Squeegee off as much excess resin as possible to avoid added weight.
-If you get some raised grain (like short hairs sticking up) after the pre-coat, you have to sand it down or else it will pull the strands out of your glass and make a mess.
-If you have to sand, only give it a very light sanding, make sure you don't sand into the bare wood or it might not wet out evenly again and you can end up with a blotchy appearance.
