I realize that I shouldn't be using a reef knot in place of a bend, but the one in that picture is the only one on the kayak. It hasn't been problematic, so far.

: over (one of Asher's knots). They hold shape well when carrying the boat,
: and feel good in the hand (the shape of the chain makes it easy to hold).
: I used them to drag the boat over some mud yesterday, and liked them.
