I'd bet the 3/4" will bend to the sheer, the heat gun does help alot. An awful lot will depend on any patterns you want to make. If it's all just random WRC the strip placement really doesn't matter much as it's really hard to see the grain unless you're a foot away assuming it's all similiar color.
